in this module you will learn basic operationsof the kx-ut133 phone. you will be able to confirm your extension number, go off-hookor on-hook, enable the hands-free mode, adjust the ringer, handset, headset, and speakervolume, and enter different characters. when the phone is in stand-by mode, you canview the extension number and the name registered to the phone. and you can register the nameusing the web user interface. scroll indicator indicates that left, right, down or up arrowcan be pressed to display the previous or next item. there are several ways to go off-hook. suchas lifting the handset off its cradle, or pressing the speakerphone button while thehandset is on its cradle. this enables the

hands-free mode. certain soft buttons, suchas 'answer', functions similar to the speakerphone. if you are using the handset, then to go on-hook,you can replace the handset on its cradle. when in hands-free mode, press speakerphoneto go on-hook. in hands-free mode, you can talk or hear theother party in a call without using the handset. this mode is useful if you want to performother tasks during a conversation, such as writing. while using the handset, you canenable hands-free mode by pressing speakerphone. during a call, press speakerphone and thenplace the handset on the cradle or when you receive an incoming call, press the 'answer'soft button. to cancel the hands-free operation, simply lift the handset off its cradle.

if you want to allow other people in the roomto listen to your call through the speaker while you continue using your handset youcan use the off-hook monitor feature. to use this feature, click the speakerphone but donot return the handset to the cradle. when the off-hook monitor feature is active, replacingthe handset to its cradle enables hands-free mode. to cancel the off-hook monitor, simplypress the speakerphone button again. you can adjust the ringer, handset, headset,and the speaker volume using the [up] or [down] navigator key. click the tab to learn theprocedure for volume setting. when you receive a call, press the [up] navigator key to increasethe ringer volume or press the [down] navigator key to decrease the ringer volume. the phonehas six volume levels. when the ringer volume

is turned all the way down, the message 'off'appears on the display. in stand-by mode, a mute symbol is displayed. when using thehandset, headset or hands-free mode, you can adjust the volume level using the [up] or[down] navigator key. in this section we will learn how to entercharacters on the phone display. click the tab to learn more about each procedure. dialkeys on the phone are used to enter characters and numbers. each dial key has multiple charactersassigned to it. for example - characters a, b and c are assigned to the dial key - two.to enter a character, press the corresponding dial key until it appears on the display.at times, you may have to enter another character that is assigned to the same key as the previouscharacter. in such cases, first click the

[right] navigator key to move the cursor tothe right and then enter the next character. for example, to enter the name 'anna', afteryou enter characters 'a' and 'n' then press the right navigator key and enter the characters'n' and 'a'. if you enter incorrect text, you can delete it. if the character you wantto delete is not the last one entered, use the [left] and [right] navigator key to movethe cursor to the character which you want to delete. then click the 'clear' soft buttonto delete it. you can also delete the entire text by pressing and holding the clear softbutton. press the 'case enable' soft button if you want to switch between uppercase andlowercase letters. you can enter a maximum of 24 non numeric characters for contact nameand 32 numeric characters to enter contact
